Agios Dimitrios Pelion Greece
Agios Dimitrios is a beautiful village on the mountain of Pelion at an altitude of 300m, with a unique view of the Aegean Sea.
t is approximately 62 km from Volos. The cobble-stoned paths in and around this village make you want to take walks and explore.
In the village you can see traditional old houses as well as huge mansions, all beautifully decorated with flowers. In spring, the smell from these flowers is amazing.
You can also find the spring fountain “Xirovrisi” dated 1899. From here you can drink cold fresh water, which is extremely pleasant especially during the hot summer season.
You can visit the many churches in the area, such as Agios Dimitrios, Agios Ioannis Theologos, Agios Georgios and the Metamorphosis of Sotira.The village is criss-crossed by a maze of stone-paved paths that lead to squares and chapels, to friendly tavernas and hospitable accommodation, which lately has been developing rapidly.
Eventually, as the visitor wanders about the paths and alleys, he is bound to reach the lovely seaside resort of Agios Ioannis, which in the past was Agios Dimitrios’ fishing port but now has evolved into a well organized summer resort.
Starting on August 3rd and lasting for 3 days, there is a big ceremony at the Metamorphosis of Sotira, where there is traditional dance, music and food. Also, don’t miss the festival on May 6th for Agio Gianni Theologo.
During the summer there are many cultural shows that take place. You can visit the museum that houses a large collection of traditional clothes and local objects and findings. For swimming, you can go to the beautiful beaches of Agios Yiannis, Plaka and Papa Nero.
